Help with the New Forest District Council website

Our site contains a wealth of information about the services provided by the New Forest District Council. This page will help you with some features and resources to get the very best from the site.

It is possible that certain information or services such as Libraries or Schools that you are looking for are covered by other Authorities such as Hampshire County Council or the New Forest National Park or even Central Government which also has many key services and functions. Other links to our neighbours will be found at the bottom of the page.

Navigation and Menus

Menus: The site is designed to be intuitive and fast to navigate using the menu bars along the top of this and all other pages.

Breadcrumb Trail: At the top of each page but just under the horizontal menu bars, there is a short menu starting "You are here: Home | ........." This helps to show were you are and how the pages are nested. (This menu system is so called after Hansel and Gretel left a breadcrumb trail as they walked in the forest so that they could retrace their steps home)

If you cannot find a menu for the service of issue you are looking for, try the Search, A-Z and FAQs.

Apart from the menus, you can Search the site using the keywords you type into the search box, which can be found at the top right of each page.

A - Z of the site

The A-Z index is a comprehensive guide to this website, providing details of information that can be found on the site.  Each entry is linked to pages which are maintained by services.  An overview of Council services are listed under Council and Democracy - Council services.

FAQ - Frequently Asked Questions

You may find a answer to a current issue immediately on the Home Page in the FAQ section towards the bottom of the page. Many people ask similar questions so we identify them and try to provide general answers here.

Different web browsers, and versions of the same browser can resolve web pages differently. The site is designed to perform best in modern versions of browsers such as Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 and above or Netscape 4.7 and above but works well in other browsers. However, if you are experiencing problems in other browsers, please try one of the two mentioned.

Our site is designed to be accessible to meet W3C WAI-AA standards as a minimum to all users. In addition we supply a number of options to help.

Text Size: Most Web browsers supply an option to change text sizes. The option in Microsoft Internet Explorer is found in the View Menu or conveniently, a text size button can easily be added to the program's menu.

Accessibility Keys: There are instructions to navigate the Web Site using the keyboard only on the Accessibility Page.

Printer Friendly Pages: Most of our pages have a "Print Page" option. This re-loads the page without unnecessary navigation so that it can be printed.
